At first I wanted to try to re-create the dress, but after a while I decided against it. Instead, I wanted to put a "Subeta-style" twist onto the avatar. Both Katniss and Cinna (and to a certain extent, the Capitol's fashion) combined were the inspiration for this entry; Katniss' updo hairstyle as well as loosely replicating the make up from that scene and the colours from her dress. Besides the obvious colour matching, I wanted to use the tattoo to symbolize the shoulder design on Katniss' dress, and the dark skin (which I decided looked a lot nicer on this avatar than lighter skin) and gold were of course inspired by Cinna. The draped cloth was actually something I clicked on by accident. As I was about to remove it, I was struck by the sudden memory of the moment in the book where Effie is training Katniss: she moves to lift up the dress she's wearing, afraid of tripping; but Effie reprimands her. (This moment also inspired the use of the heeled shoes.) I decided to incorporate the item without a second thought. Overall, there are quite a few (in what I hope are) subtle throwbacks in this avatar, such as the bright colours and jewelry replicating the Capitol's style; the slightly-exposing top inspired by Katniss' fears of Cinna putting her in a provocative outfit (or worse, no outfit at all!). . Ho-hum. I think I may have gone a bit overboard there... sorry. TL;DR: Katniss' interview dress with a Subetean fashion + my own personal style twist. Tags: sfFilm |
