I actually really love how this avatar works! The random patches of bare skin are very appealing. I think that what's keeping this from getting the adores it should is the color scheme - many tend to find that using black plus any other color alone is 'boring'. I suggest maybe spice this up a little with a brighter color of some sort, or maybe some accessories like a tattoo or a ring.
